Candles: on Windstar you dine beneath the sails

Candles is the most exciting dining experience on board Windstar Cruises‘ sailing ships, allowing you to enjoy dinner on the outside deck amidst the magic of sails and sailing.

A voyage aboard Wind Surf is a fascinating experience in itself and can offer much more than just a cruise. But when we add fine dining to the magic of sails and breathtaking views, our memories will be even more beautiful and will leave us longing to return on board.

It certainly enriches the experience aboard Windstar Cruises‘ sailing ship to indulge in dinner at Candles, on the Star Deck, the highest deck aboard Wind Surf, where the outside tables of the Veranda Restaurant are transformed in the evenings into a romantic restaurant overlooking the sea, right under the ship’s large sail.

Dinner is free for guests and is available by reservation, which must be made on board. Usually there are no availability problems, but it is preferable to secure your table as soon as you embark so that you can get one on your preferred evening.

Elegantly set tables, a la carte service with an excellent choice and a rich and accessible wine list will prepare guests for a truly unforgettable dinner. The menu is extensive and allows you to choose between starters and soups, main dishes with their side dishes and fantastic desserts. Much of what is on offer revolves around the Grill located right at the entrance to the Veranda Restaurant, where top-quality fish and meat are cooked on the spot.

As in other restaurants on board, there is a dish dedicated to the collaboration with the James Beard Foundation, in this case a very special tomato and melon salad. Other starters include seared prawns, a clam chowder and the ever-present Caesar salad.

The choice of main courses is truly vast. Fish options include the catch of the day, sea bass in salt, mixed fish kebabs and prawns with chorizo. Meat lovers, on the other hand, can choose from lamb loin, New York Strip Loin, Beef Fillet Steak Mignon. But also the chicken breast served with pesto broccoli and the large veal chop.

Of course, vegetarians will not be disappointed either. For them, the chefs on board offer a vegetable dish of the day and Tofu with black pepper. All the main dishes are accompanied by a side dish of your choice, including baked potatoes, delicious French Fries, but also sautéed asparagus, mushroom sautèe and spinach.

For those who want to try some special dishes, for an extra charge you can get the Tomahawk Steak and the Beef Bone-in-PorterhouseSteak: truly enormous cuts of meat that will challenge you! You can’t help but end on a sweet note: Creme Brulée, Dark ChocolateGranache Bar, Caramalised Lemon Tart…whatever you choose, it will be the right one.

Thanks to the attentive service and small touches such as a choice of three different types of salt and freshly baked bread, dinner at Candles brings undoubted value to a cruise with Windstar Cruises. Cruising at dusk, under the big sails and savouring your favourite dishes prepared at the on-board Grill is bound to be a thrill.
