Discover romantic Bruges!
Cruising Journal brings you today to discover another wonderful destination, the UNESCO World Heritage Site: Bruges, one of the most romantic cities in the heart of Flanders.
After docking in Zeebrugge in the late afternoon, our exciting excursion began: “Discovering Bruges in the evening with a visit to the chocolate factory“.
When you think of Belgium, you inevitably think of Bruges. Capital of West Flanders, Bruges is a fairy-tale city surrounded by a moat that follows the footsteps of the ancient medieval fortifications. The heart of the city is the market square where stands the Belfort, the iconic bell tower of the city.
Once in the city center, our guided tour began; Bruges has always been one of the most photographed cities; its characteristic streets, brick arches and picturesque bridges make it a perfect setting for our souvenir photos.
Bruges has the best preserved medieval old town and is crossed by many canals. One of the most characteristic attractions is certainly the bell tower, built between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, 83 meters high. The Belfort, overlooks the market and is the tallest building in the city; even today, new buildings cannot exceed the height of this iconic monument.
Despite being a small city, Bruges is full of opportunities: you can stroll through trendy stores, boutiques, craft stores and of course you cannot miss the stops at the many chocolate stores.
After a long walk in the heart of the medieval city we headed to the chocolate factory. We witnessed the processing and production of chocolate and for the joy of the greedy ones at the end of the experience we also tasted different types of chocolate, among them, a real surprise was to try the 95% dark chocolate, a real delight!
After the demonstration, we checked out the attached museum and at this point also purchased some wonderful, yummy souvenirs from the surrounding stores.
The return to the ship was at 23:30 and of course before that time, we did not miss a fresh pint of traditional Belgian beer!
