Enjoy Nature with a Cruise to Tenerife

Cruising Journal, the international portal for cruise ship reviews, takes you to Tenerife! Enjoy the natural sights of Tenerife during a cruise stopover in the Cruising Journal tips.

From visiting natural parks and swimming with dolphins and turtles to dancing the night away, there is an option for every taste on this adventure in the Canary Islands.

Tenerife truly offers the most unique and nature-filled experience, as the locals put care and attention into showing off their majestic landscapes, while also preserving them for future generations. The passion with which the people of Tenerife present their culture and traditions will make you feel as warm as if you’re coming home.

How to Get to Tenerife

Many cruise itineraries, including Norwegian Cruise Lines, MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises, offer tours with Santa Cruz de Tenerife as a stopover port.

The Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection offers a more luxurious travel experience to the Canary Islands, including private suites and gourmet food for your enjoyment. You also have the option to charter your own vessel with this cruise for a more private experience.

You could also spend some time with your childhood heroes aboard one of the Disney Cruise Line vessels. On this cruise, the entertainment needs no introduction, and the furnishings come right out of a fairy tale.

Dolphins and Turtles

Climb on board with Xplore Tenerife for a kayaking adventure, where you can get up close and personal with dolphins in their natural environment. This tour allows you to observe these magnificent creatures without frightening or disturbing them, and the waters off the coast of the island are the perfect location to spot up to five different species of dolphins.

As a bonus, you’ll also be able to go snorkelling with turtles and bull rays in a bay only accessible by kayak. During this tour, the animals usually come out and swim around you, giving you a unique and respectful aquatic experience.

Mt. Teide Excursion

Explore the villages and landscapes around Tenerife’s Mt. Teide and the Masca valley on this full-day tour offered by Tenerife Sunshine Excursions. You’ll go visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Teide National Park, where you’ll experience the wonderful sights of the Teide volcano. Next, you’ll pass through Vilaflor, one of Spain’s highest villages, and stop for a photo at the island’s famous dragon tree, which is thought to be over 1,000 years old. Finally, you’ll explore Garachico, with its rugged lava landscapes, and Masca, the village tucked into the bottom of the steep valleys.

A Compás

Settle down for an evening experience in Arona with a traditional flamenco show performed by A Compás Tenerife. Live musicians accompany the talented dancers as they mesmerize the audience and take them through the various styles of the traditional flamenco. In this moving and entertaining experience, every detail, from the costumes to the music to the movements of the dancers, is curated to tug at the heartstrings of the spectator.

Barranco del Infierno (Hell’s Gorge)

A truly special hiking experience is that of Barranco del Infierno, or Hell’s Gorge. This beautiful hiking trail is easy enough that even a beginner hiker can venture the path, provided that they have the right equipment. This beautiful trail is preserved by controlled visits, and only 300 people are allowed to walk it each day to avoid the disturbances to the local flora caused by heavy foot traffic. Because of these limitations, a reservation is necessary to experience this adventure.

During your stay, trying the local cuisine is a must. Any restaurant in Tenerife will provide a great experience, but some of the top recommendations are Tasca Tierra del Suror El Taller, which provides a secluded dining experience.

Don’t forget to leave a comment or review on Cruising Journal to tell us about your experience on the cruise ship.
