Here my recommendations for Kiel/Germany.
“Moin” = Hello from the beautiful City of Kiel in State Schleswig-Holstein.
Kiel is the capital of the northernmost state of Schleswig-Holstein and has just under 260000 inhabitants. Kiel is the third largest cruise port in Germany with almost 179 ship calls in 2019.
In second place is Hamburg and first place Warnemünde.

Bay is a very popular sailing area. Always in the last full week of June (22.06.-30.06.2019) takes place with us the Kieler Woche. This is the world’s largest sailing event. Every year about 3,5 million visitors come to the Kiel Week.
For 10 days various events take place from the “Hörn” (at the train station) up to Schilksee … There are over 20 stages where artists perform. Many familiar faces are included.
Kiel has a lot to offer besides the Kiel Week. At the Kiel Fjord there are beautiful beaches in the north. In Laboe you can rent a beach chair (10 euros per day) put his feet in the sand, drink a good beer and eat a delicious fish sandwich.
The beach in Laboe can be reached from the center of Kiel within 30 minutes by car or you can opt for one of the ferries (line 1) that regularly depart from the “Seegarten” bridge direct on the cruise terminal.

Who did not know it yet – the Kiel Canal (formerly Kaiser Wilhelm Canal) which begins in Brunsbüttel (North Sea) and ends in Kiel (Baltic Sea) is the busiest artificial waterway in the world. Almost 32,000 ships pass through it every year.
From sailors to freighters to small cruise ships, everything is represented. The ships save themselves by the channel the long way around Denmark. The canal ends in the beautiful district Holtenau where old captain’s houses and cute restaurants can be found.

If there is less time for Kiel, because you have to go directly to the ship. Most cruise ships are located directly in Kiel city center on the Baltic Sea. There begins the “Blue Line” from Kiel. This blue line will take you to the main attractions.
At the “Kiellinie” (the promenade at the fjord) you can go for a walk. There is the Camp24 / 7 a small sailing school where you can book short trips of 1-2 hours.
I once participated in the sailed city tour. Very informative and if the wind is good then the boats pull off well.
Since Kiel was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War you unfortunately find very little old town.
Kiel was and is known by its shipyard for submarine and navi ships.

There are still one or two streets where you can see some “old” Kiel. One of them is the “Dänischestraße” – “Danish street” with a museum telling the town’s history and many small private shops.
Right next to the “Ostseekai” – your port is also the Maritime Museum and the station for the “Hop on – Hop of bus”
