CHTA and AI: a Guide to Elevate Caribbean Tourism
The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) has unveiled its new guide, “Guide to Artificial Intelligence Transformation for Caribbean Tourism.” This project, launched by the CHTA Technology Task Force, represents the first guide of its kind published by a Regional Hotel and Tourism Association.
Authored by Christus Gill with the support of artificial intelligence, the guide marks a significant step forward in integrating AI into the Caribbean tourism sector, setting new standards for technological innovation. Inspired by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) guide, “Introduction to AI Technology: A Guide for Travel and Tourism Leaders,” the CHTA has developed a comprehensive resource for industry operators. The AI Guide offers insights and best practices tailored to the context of Caribbean tourism, highlighting the numerous benefits of adopting AI and addressing the associated challenges and concerns.
Sanovnik Destang, Executive Director of Bay Gardens Resorts and President of the CHTA Technology Task Force, expressed enthusiasm for this new resource, stating that the Guide to AI Transformation for Caribbean Tourism opens up numerous alternative possibilities in the sector. By integrating AI technologies, it is possible to enhance guest experiences, optimize operational efficiency, and redefine the boundaries of tourism in the Caribbean.
The creation of the guide was the result of collaboration among leading industry professionals from across the Caribbean region, members of the CHTA Technology Task Force, including President Sanovnik Destang; Co-president Christus Gill; Yatsuri Marshall from St. Lucia; Brian Broomes and Jamal Griffith from Barbados; Jeremy Jones from Jamaica; Lisa Hamilton from the U.S. Virgin Islands; and Kjerstin Carlson, a CHTA partner.
The guide explores generative AI and other AI technologies, offering strategies and insights specific to the Caribbean hospitality and tourism sectors. It also addresses challenges and ethical issues, demonstrating how AI can transform the travel sector through innovation and creativity. The CHTA Technology Task Force also plans to publish a subsequent guide with examples of AI implementation in hotels and tourism businesses in the Caribbean.
