Theodora Riga Elected President of MedCruise


Theodora Riga, Chief Commercial Officer and Director of Strategic Communications at the Port of Thessaloniki, has been elected as the new President of MedCruise for the 2024-2027 term.

During the 65th General Assembly of MedCruise, held in Malaga, Spain, as part of Seatrade Cruise Med 2024, the new Board of Directors was also appointed. The Board includes Anne-Marie Spinosi of Corsica Ports as Senior Vice President and Laura Cimaglia from the Port of Taranto as Vice President. Other members are Valeria Mangiarotti (Ports of Sardinia, Italy), Cristina De Gregori (Port of Genoa/Savona, Italy), Luz Marina Espiau Moreno (Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain), Joško Šupe (Šibenik Port Authority, Croatia), Dario Barbarić (Dubrovnik Port Authority, Croatia), Maria Belkoleva (Port of Burgas, Bulgaria), Lorenzo Vera Franco (Motril Port Authority, Spain), Genoveva Climent (Tarragona Port Authority, Spain), Figen Ayan (Galataport Istanbul, Turkey), Kyriaki Kampana (Heraklion Port Authority, Greece), Gilson Cruz (Ports of Cape Verde, Cape Verde), and Angelos Vlachos (Kavala Port Authority, Greece).

Theodora Riga expressed her strong belief in the value of collective action and emphasized her determination to enhance activities while ensuring responsible cruise development to the benefit of all ports and destinations across the Mediterranean. She further noted that through the collective efforts of members and synergies with other associations and institutions (UNTWO, ESPO, AIVP, CLIA, IAPH, etc.), economic, environmental, and socially sustainable development of ports, destinations, and all stakeholders in the Mediterranean and adjacent seas can be maximized.

Born in 1973 in the United States, Theodora Riga holds an MBA in Business Administration and has held senior executive positions in port, shipping, and financial services companies over the past 20 years. Riga is also a member of the National Cruise Committee and serves on the board of a shipping company listed on the Athens Stock Exchange. She has worked as a Commercial Director and Management Consultant for Strategic Development, Sales, Marketing, and Communications for Greece’s largest shipping companies, providing communication support to the Association of Passenger Shipping Companies.

Theodora Riga, who is also a board member of the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization and a representative of the Hellenic Chamber of Commerce on the Greek Government’s National Cruise Committee, succeeds Figen Ayan, Chief Officer at Galataport Istanbul. Ayan will continue her involvement with the Association as Honorary President and elected member of the Board of Directors.
