Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife hosts three new ships
The Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife recently welcomed the cruise ships National Geographic Endurance, Viking Sky, and Celebrity Ascent for the first time. The event was celebrated with the traditional presentation of metope to the respective ships, highlighting the significance of these inaugural visits.
The National Geographic Endurance, an icebreaker class ship, received its metope during a ceremony attended by Captain Herr Oliver Kriess and Luz Marina Espiau, Commercial and Business Development Manager of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority. Also present at the event were Elisa Zamora, Business Development Manager; José Antonio Beltrán, Operations Manager of Miller y Cía, and Monica Jarque from the Commercial Department of the Port Authority.
The Celebrity Ascent, a ship of the American company Celebrity Cruise Line, arrived at the port with 3,110 passengers in transit and 1,391 crew members. At the metope presentation ceremony to the ship’s captain, Anastasios Kafetzis, Guillermo De Ponte Machado, Branch Manager of Hamilton y Cía, participated along with two representatives of the American company, who exchanged the metope on behalf of the Captain.
Also the Viking Sky ship, from the Viking Cruises company, received its plaque in a ceremony attended by Marta Alonso, Cruise Manager of Pérez y Cía, and Gabriel Cabrera, Director of the Consignataria in Tenerife. Representing the Port Authority, Miguel Angel Bonnet Hodgson, Head of the Commercial Department, presented the plaque to the Captain of the Viking Sky.
These inaugural visits underscore the importance of the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife as a key destination in the cruise industry, further strengthening its reputation and attractiveness in the sector.
