Artificial Intelligence in the Cruise Industry

Artificial intelligence is transforming the world and is increasingly making its way into all sectors, including the cruise industry.

In fact, AI is driving revolutionary changes in shore operations within the cruise tourism sector. During the Seatrade Cruise Med event, industry experts highlighted the real-world challenges being faced, the AI-based solutions they have implemented, and showcased the tangible benefits of artificial integration.

When used correctly, artificial intelligence can enhance many aspects, such as shore operations, guest experience, and AI’s potential for growth in the tourism sector is incredibly high. This is why new projects are being developed to make the most of this tool.

SeaCras, represented by CEO and founder Mario Spadina, demonstrated how Coastal Intelligence leverages AI analysis of ultra-high-resolution satellite data to assess marine emissions and estimate the ecological vulnerability of micro-locations, destinations, and territorial waters. With this system, SeaCras evaluates various water quality descriptors and combines them with data on anthropogenic, aerial, and terrestrial activities to provide insights into risks, threats, and opportunities for ports, port authorities, and cruise lines. Through this, it can determine how the marine environment changes over time and understand the impacts caused by humans and the climate, minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and customer costs. This solution is designed to address challenges faced by stakeholders in the cruise and coastal tourism sectors, maritime transport, offshore energy, and security.

Lufthansa Industry Solutions, with Yazdani Fereshta, Consultant at Lufthansa Industry Solutions, presented a groundbreaking advancement in artificial vision and data analysis that is set to redefine operational excellence across various sectors. Their cutting-edge services utilize existing camera streams to provide seamless, real-time tracking and monitoring of people, objects, and processes. This project demonstrates how state-of-the-art technologies integrating AI, cloud computing, and business intelligence are well-suited for cruise companies, enhancing both efficiency and guest experience. These advancements extend beyond the ships themselves, significantly improving shore operations, where ports of call will benefit from better logistics management, streamlined processes, and enhanced security protocols, ensuring a smooth transition for travelers from ship to shore.

OnDeck by Sourcetoad, represented by CEO Gregory Ross-Munro, showed how their AI-powered digital concierge enhances in-app experiences by offering personalized services such as curated news and customized walking tours. It also provides advanced AI systems for crew training, ensuring the delivery of top-tier services. Operationally, their guest sentiment survey analysis tool uses AI to turn feedback into actionable insights, fostering continuous service improvement. These innovations not only elevate the onboard experience but also streamline shore operations, ensuring a consistent and high-quality experience for guests. OnDeck’s AI solutions are fully integrated, offering cruise companies a comprehensive approach to enhancing both guest satisfaction and operational excellence.

Artificial intelligence is thus becoming an increasingly essential tool for improving both shore and sea operations, as well as enhancing the experiences of passengers and employees.
