Caribbean Week 2024 in New York

The Caribbean Week, a key event for tourism professionals and enthusiasts alike, organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), was held from June 16 to 21, 2024, at the InterContinental New York Times Square, in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.

“Connecting the Globe, Celebrating Diversity”; this was the theme of the CTO’s 35th anniversary, offering a deep dive into events and business meetings between the CTO Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, and the Council of Ministers. The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), headquartered in Barbados, is the Caribbean’s tourism development agency, comprising the region’s top countries and territories, private sectors, and groups from Dutch, English, and French-speaking nations. The organization aims to promote Sustainable Tourism – One Sea, One Voice, One Caribbean and support the Caribbean as the most desirable year-round destination, thanks to its enviable warm climate and unforgettable travel experiences. The organization provides specialized support and technical assistance in developing marketing, communications, advocacy, human resources, planning, and technological research.

Rosa Harris, Chair of the CTO Board of Directors, stated that the intergovernmental organization was delighted to return to the “Big Apple” during Caribbean-American Heritage Month, to connect more deeply with the region’s culture and discuss tourism business, particularly in the Caribbean. This was made possible thanks to the support of the main sponsor, the Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation of the Bahamas, the gold sponsor, the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, and the Caribbean Media Exchange.

The Caribbean Week began with a worship moment and a Tourism Marketing and Business Symposium, while the Caribbean Media Awards, recognizing journalists and influencers who have dedicatedly and profitably promoted Caribbean tourism, were combined with the much-anticipated Media Marketplace. Additionally, there was a special session dedicated to artificial intelligence, highlighting the organization’s forward-thinking approach, and the significant work of the CTO Foundation and the notable newly launched Jean Holder Scholarship were in the spotlight. Furthermore, there were a leadership breakfast, an award ceremony focused on women’s empowerment, as well as a Cricket Ceremony and Festival. The topics covered included service excellence, enhancing connections between New York City and the region, air transport strategies, multicultural marketing, public relations particularly with the tourism trade, and smart destination management.
