MedCruise and Adrijoroutes: more Sustainable Tourism
The second public event of the ADRIJOROUTES project marked an important milestone for the cultural network of the involved ports, strengthening the role of port areas not only as transit points for passengers and goods but also as true cultural hubs.
ADRIJOROUTES, funded by the Italy-Croatia Program 2021-2027 with a budget of over 2.6 million euros, is an initiative aimed at making Adriatic port destinations more sustainable, accessible, and digitalized.
Thanks to the collaboration between eight Italian and Croatian ports, the project aims to transform these locations into an integrated tourist network, promoting innovative cultural offerings and enhancing the shared heritage between the two Adriatic coasts.

The routes designed under ADRIJOROUTES revolve around various themes, ranging from local food and wine traditions to lesser-known cultural heritage, offering alternative itineraries in the most famous destinations and enhancing the natural wonders surrounding the port areas.
Other itineraries retrace historical connections in the Adriatic, explore architectural masterpieces in the involved cities, and connect UNESCO-recognized sites accessible from the participating ports. The port cities involved in the project include Ancona, Ravenna, Venice, Trieste, Rijeka, Zadar, Split, and Dubrovnik, each with its own rich historical and cultural heritage that contributes to the creation of an integrated tourist network.
One of the key objectives of the project is to strengthen the bond between the port cities and their local communities. Thanks to ADRIJOROUTES, the ports become more accessible and attractive to various categories of visitors, contributing to the creation of a shared cultural identity and the enhancement of the historical heritage of the involved regions.

The digital beating heart of the initiative is the ADRIJO.eu portal, an innovative virtual museum that brings together eight Italian and Croatian ports into a single interactive platform. Through this tool, visitors can explore immersive digital content and learn more about the history of the ports participating in the project.
The Port Authority of Zadar hosted the second public event of ADRIJOROUTES, held at the Center for Creative Industries. During the meeting, industry experts discussed topics related to underwater archaeology, museum digitization, and tourism flow management, with a focus on innovative solutions for a more sustainable cruise tourism.
Among the speakers were prominent figures from the tourism and maritime sectors, including Theodora Riga, president of MedCruise, and representatives from Italian and Croatian port authorities, the academic world, and the hotel industry.
