SeaCras: Protecting the Seas for a Sustainable Future

SeaCras is a Croatian company focused on monitoring water quality in coastal areas, particularly targeting the “blue economy,” which emphasizes the sustainable management of oceans and coastal ecosystems.

Today, ocean pollution is a global issue with economic, ecological, and social impacts. Pollution and the lack of early warnings result in over €20 billion in losses within the EU alone, while 79% of coastal seabeds are considered physically disturbed, leading to a loss of biodiversity. The lack of public awareness and reduced access to clean seas threatens the long-term sustainability of the blue economy.

SeaCras offers Coastal Intelligence, a portfolio of solutions for companies and institutions that need to demonstrate their pollution prevention efforts to end users.

Coastal Intelligence tackles three critical issues for stakeholders in the blue economy:

1. Affordable and ecological monitoring of the sea areas
2. ESG compliance aligned with GRI and ESRS indices
3. Prevention of pollution and avoidance of greenwashing through transparent disclosure of human impacts on the marine environment

By utilizing AI-based satellite data analysis, SeaCras provides highly accurate, real-time information on water conditions, enables the evaluation of marine emissions, and predicts ecological vulnerability. Their innovative technology helps tackle the environmental challenges of coastal areas, such as pollution, coastal urbanization, and eutrophication, by monitoring the impacts of tourism, maritime transport, aquaculture, and the cruise industry.

The team consists of renowned scientists, experts in technology development and geospatial data analysis, as well as professionals in business and financial management for the integration of ESG into company operations. Each year, the team expands with a strong focus on matching skills and expertise, while also prioritizing diversity and inclusion. SeaCras is dedicated to meeting the varied needs of each client, offering a one-stop shop package that ranges from sea monitoring to ESG reporting on marine resources, as well as the demonstration of sustainability actions.

SeaCras primarily offers four key products:

Integrated Surveillance and Marine Environmental Monitoring: SeaCras delivers timely data and insights on the condition of the sea, classifying pollution hazards or natural events, from urban areas to remote locations, including inaccessible sites, anchorages, and marine protected areas;

ESG Reporting for Marine Monitoring and Reporting: This service provides continuous data updates and comprehensive trend analysis on marine emissions, conservation guidelines, pollution control, climate resilience and adaptation, and ecosystem restoration. It also evaluates risks, threats, and opportunities to assess future conditions and build business resilience;

SeaCras App: The user-friendly platform is designed to demonstrate sustainability efforts and reduce pollution risks. It works anywhere on Earth and supports areas of any size, from micro-locations to large destinations. The App includes content designed to educate guests and the local population and evaluates the operational impact on the marine environment. Through QR codes, guests and citizens can simply scan the code and instantly receive information on the water quality of the designated area via the app, as already implemented in the port of Zadar. Both cruise lines and port operators benefit from the SeaCras App;

Marine Science and Sustainability Consulting: This service helps companies become resilient to emerging risks in an environment where marine management regulations are constantly evolving and becoming more stringent. Given the high probability of sudden events caused by accelerated climate change, having access to integrated data and interpretations is increasingly important.

SeaCras‘ efforts align with the broader sustainability goals of the United Nations (UN) and European Union (EU), such as the Sustainable Development, Water Framework Directive and the European Green Deal. Additionally, SeaCras has received several recognitions, including being named a 2024 Success Story by the Tourism and Cultural Heritage User Consultation Platform and the EU Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA), and being recognized as an ESG data provider for marine resource monitoring in the 2023 EU Space for Green Transformation report. SeaCras has also earned numerous awards, such as reaching the finals of the prestigious BlueInvest 2022 program, an initiative of the European Commission supporting high-potential blue economy startups, and recently being one of the winners at the World Economic Forum challenge for solutions to reduce marine pollution and promote ecosystem protection, restoration, and rewilding. The World Economic Forum and UN’s partners showcased SeaCras at Climate Week NYC 2024 as one of the available technology providers that can solve issues in the regenerative blue economy, with an emphasis on the cruise industry.”

SeaCras’ mission is to provide partners and clients with services and products based on a new data-driven approach to achieve resilience, safety, and the conservation and restoration of seas and oceans.
