Albatros Expeditions: The First Halal Cruise to Antarctica
Albatros Expeditions has announced an unprecedented innovation in the expedition cruise world: starting in 2026, the company will offer fully Halal-certified cuisine on board its ships in Antarctica. This marks a historic milestone for the industry, which has never seen such an offering in the region of eternal ice.
The Halal project is led by Rashidah Lim, the Business Development Manager for Southeast Asia and the only Muslim Expedition Leader in the polar sector. Rashidah is working closely with Johanna from the Marketing Department, Sara, the Business Development Manager for the Middle East, and Product Managers Janina and Steffan to promote and develop this innovative product.
Jens Rasmussen, COO and Board Member of the Albatros Group, proudly states that they are pioneers in the polar sector with a new and exciting exploration adventure through the Ocean Albatros ship. The company has always been at the forefront, exploring new products and ideas thanks to the contributions of a highly skilled team, partners, and guests. Launching the first Halal-certified cruise to Antarctica is an exciting achievement for the entire Albatros Group, which thanks the team behind the project and Rashidah Lim for turning this idea into reality.
The Muslim-friendly environment on board includes the absence of pork and alcoholic beverages, and bringing external food or drinks is not allowed. However, travelers of other faiths are welcome to join this unique adventure.
In addition to Halal-certified meals (Halal certification by CrescentRating), the Ocean Albatros will also offer hours exclusively for women in the onboard sauna, which provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Antarctic sea ice.
