Cruise Saudi at the United Nations Global Compact

Cruise Saudi has announced its participation in the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative dedicated to promoting sustainable and socially responsible business practices.

Formally launched in July 2000, the United Nations Global Compact is a non-binding UN pact that encourages companies and private sector businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies and report on their implementation.

By joining the United Nations Global Compact, Cruise Saudi commits to integrating its ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption into its global strategy, culture, and day-to-day operations. Additionally, Cruise Saudi will engage in collaborative projects that promote the broader development goals of the United Nations, particularly its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were created with the aim of addressing climate change and ending poverty.

Sustainability is a fundamental part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 as the Kingdom strives for a Net Zero future by 2060. With a commitment to clean energy and sustainability, the Kingdom is leading the charge in addressing energy and climate challenges with innovative solutions such as the Circular Carbon Economy (CCE) and a more diversified energy mix, with 50% of energy coming from renewable sources by 2030.

Lars Clasen, CEO of Cruise Saudi, highlighted that by joining the United Nations Global Compact, Cruise Saudi demonstrates its commitment to the global community. He expressed his delight in joining over 20,000 companies worldwide that share the same vision, hoping that this movement can drive positive change.

As a private sector organization, Cruise Saudi is fully committed to developing the cruise market along Saudi shores, focusing on sustainability and innovation while working towards achieving Saudi Arabia’s national sustainability goals. Operating within the broader context of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 to diversify the economy, Cruise Saudi aims to welcome 1.3 million cruise passengers annually by 2035 and support the country’s wider tourism industry.
