Ocean Albatros: Success for the 2024 Arctic Season
Ocean Albatros successfully concluded its 2024 Arctic season with its last voyage, which departed from Reykjavik on October 2 and headed for Ushuaia.
With eco-friendly and cutting-edge vessels, Albatros Expeditions offers sustainable expeditions on small ships inspired by its Nordic heritage, a cornerstone of the company since its first journeys offered to Scandinavian travelers over 25 years ago.
Today, Albatros Expeditions welcomes travelers from around the world on cruises designed to explore the Arctic regions and cultivate a deep appreciation for the cultures and environments that characterize them, thanks to exclusive partnerships with local communities. This commitment is particularly evident in Greenland, where the company prioritizes hiring local guides and staff, supports traditional activities and crafts, and collaborates with communities to protect their cultures and traditions.
The 2024 Arctic season was a resounding success, with Ocean Albatros covering 23,844 nautical miles, visiting 11 countries, completing 18 voyages, and hosting over 2,400 guests from 56 countries. Another great piece of news is that this was the first Arctic season in the last three years completed successfully without significant external disruptions or COVID cases, a positive sign indicating a healthy return to normalcy in the small ship cruise sector.
Wildlife encounters were also a highlight of the 2024 Arctic season, including over 27 polar bear sightings during the Svalbard season and an additional three during the voyage in Canada. Whale sightings were equally spectacular, culminating in a breathtaking appearance of a blue whale near the ship in Qarajaqs Isfjord, Greenland.
Jens H. Rasmussen, COO and board member of Albatros Travel, enthusiastically stated that the Albatros family is extremely proud of the latest Arctic season, emphasizing that sailing aboard Ocean Albatros, a newly built Infinity-class vessel, for an entire season in the Arctic marks another milestone in the company’s history.
Rasmussen further added that the Arctic is deeply rooted in Albatros Expeditions‘ tradition, as it represents the place where the Expeditions brand was born in the mid-1990s with journeys to Svalbard and Greenland. Over the years, the Arctic offerings have expanded into a comprehensive hospitality network, including hotels, transportation, and navigation services in Greenland, as well as a strong Destination Management Company in Kangerlussuaq and Ilulissat.
Albatros Expeditions is already looking ahead, as new programs for the Arctic will be available for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, welcoming even more guests to experience the extraordinary beauty and adventure that the Arctic has to offer. This success is reflected in the highest guest satisfaction ever recorded for the company’s Arctic expeditions, reaching an overall NPS score of 79, a 21.5% increase compared to last year. The strong interest in the 2025 season also highlights guest satisfaction, with many expeditions for next year selling out quickly.
Albatros Expeditions continues to offer sustainable expeditions on small vessels, creating life-changing memories for its guests while delivering unmatched value. Each expedition is designed to maximize appreciation of the cultures, traditions, and delicate environments visited, fostering a warm and welcoming atmosphere unique in the cruise industry.
