Silver Nova debuts in Alaska with the S.A.L.T. Program

At The Last Frontier event, renowned cruise line Silversea marks the entry of its latest luxury ship, Silver Nova, into Alaska with the new and enhanced S.A.L.T. culinary program.

Starting on May 9, 2024, Silver Nova has officially arrived in Alaska, which runs through September 5, 2024. The season will feature seven-day voyages introducing Silversea’s award-winning S.A.L.T. culinary program to the region for the first time.

During the inaugural season in Alaska, Silver Nova will offer 18 voyages with two itinerary options. One of these options is a cruise from Vancouver to Seward (Alaska), scheduled for the week of June 20-27, 2024. Guests will have the chance to explore Ketchikan, known as the salmon capital of the world, with a tour of the historic cannery and a lumberjack show, providing insight into the region’s fishing and forestry past.

Another scheduled trip is from Seward (Alaska) to Vancouver, from July 25 to August 1, 2024. Travelers will immerse themselves in the exploration of this remote land characterized by bears, wild landscapes, and icy terrains, navigating through the Inside Passage islands, observing local wildlife, and viewing the Hubbard Glacier.

An acronym for Sea and Land Taste, the S.A.L.T. program allows guests to delve into local culinary culture through onboard and onshore experiences. New features include various experience options, such as the S.A.L.T. Kitchen, which will introduce local dishes like cured duck breast with Alaskan fry bread, Alaskan salmon pie, venison ravioli with wild mushrooms, and the classic Baked Alaska dessert.

Another feature, the S.A.L.T. Lab, will offer classes like “Wild Salmon: An Alaskan Way of Life,” where local experts Emma Teal Laukitis and Claire Neaton will teach guests three different salmon preparation methods.

Last but not least, the S.A.L.T. Chef’s Table will provide an intimate and interactive culinary experience, showcasing traditional dishes reinterpreted creatively. Highlights of this menu will include tableside-smoked salmon, Dungeness crab salad, braised duck with birch syrup, beer-battered Alaskan mushrooms, and a chocolate beet cake.

Adam Sachs, Director of the S.A.L.T. program, expressed his excitement about launching the S.A.L.T. program in Alaska, enabling guests to connect deeply with this unique region through unparalleled culinary experiences.

Moreover, Silversea’s Nova-class ships, including Silver Nova and Silver Ray, embody the Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to offering luxury vacation experiences with an extensive range of new venues, unprecedented suite options, new experiences, Otium wellness services, enhancements to the S.A.L.T. culinary program, all with a focus on sustainability. These ships are 40% more energy efficient than international standards.

Silversea and the Royal Caribbean Group further strengthen their SEA The Future commitment by supporting local and port communities in Alaska through various initiatives aimed at sustaining the planet. These include the Ketchikan Salmon Walk, a nearly two-mile trail exploring salmon migration in collaboration with the Tongass Historical Museum, support for local businesses like Skagway Spirits, Seafood Producers Cooperative, and Alaska Specialty Seafood, and the Sitka Sound Science Center, which involves K-12 students in scientific and educational experiences through the Scientists in the Schools program.
