Sailrock South Caicos: Where to stay in the Caribbean
CARIBBEAN CRUISERS: WHY FLY SO FAR AND NOT EXPERIENCE A RESORT NO CRUISE SHIP EVER VISITS?
Let’s be honest. Your Caribbean Cruise can only take you so far. Why not extend your trip to include a stay at a magical resort that’s completely off the beaten path? Sailrock South Caicos is just such a place. The islands that make up Turks and Caicos are now “In Places” to be in the Caribbean. Its azure waters, sparkling white sand beaches now draw the rich and famous. Its capital, Providenciales, is home to these island’s International Airport.
You can fly to and from there from over 30 airports around the world – on direct flights from 28 cities in 9 countries. Cruisers can head straight from the Port of Miami and Port Everglades and be in Turks in under 2 hours. From there, it’s just a 15-minute flight to South Caicos and Sailrock. To make it even easier, on February 25th 2025, American Airlines will inaugurate its first non-stop flights from Miami to South Caicos’ Norman B. Saunders Sr. International Airport (XSC) which is literally minutes from Sailrock.
WHAT MAKES SAILROCK SO INCREDIBLY SPECIAL?
Location. Location. Location. South Caicos is the seventh largest island in Turks and Caicos. The entire island has a population of just 1200 souls, perhaps the nicest people this writer has ever encountered. Sailrock itself is situated away from Cockburn Harbor, the main town on the island. Sailrock occupies its own peninsula with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Caribbean on the other. You are greeted at Sailrock’s Great House and it’s immediately apparent that you are now a member of a very exclusive club. Sailrock is a meticulously planned community. Sailrock Resort is but one part of Sailrock. Sailrock Living is for those fortunate few who make Sailrock Villas their homes away from home in this paradisical place. Everyone at Sailrock enjoys immaculate white sandy beaches, ocean-side bluffs, the world’s third largest coral reef and amazing salt flats which, at low tide, you can walk for miles.
THE ACCOMODATIONS AT SAILROCK ARE SIMPLY ASTONISHING
Choose a one- or two-bedroom Suite in one of 5 Ridgetop Residences. You’ll be astonished at the views in every direction. You will delight in living in high style. No detail has been overlooked from the sybaritic outdoor shower and bath to the perfect Butler’s pantry. And of course, the décor is of the highest order…and incredibly comfortable. Your Ridgetop residence is within easy distance of the Great House. There, the infinity pool is your oasis. At the Great House Restaurant, you’ll dine on superb Caribbean cuisine and enjoy specialty cocktails invented by Kubir Dhungana, Sailrock’s Food and Beverage guru. Don’t miss the spectacular Sailrock Martini. Or select a Beachfront villa with private swimming pool and up to 4 bedrooms! Perfect for families, every bedroom offers complete privacy and its own outdoor shower. And each villa is equipped with a full kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining areas and the most astonishing sunrises over the Atlantic. And every villa has pathway down to Long Beach where you can swim in the ocean or walk the white sand beach. Whichever accommodation you choose, plan a night of intimate dining in your suite prepared by your private Sailrock Chef Pershald and served by Karel who will know you by name from your first day here.
DO AS MUCH OR AS LITTLE AS YOU WANT
As hard as it is to tear yourself away from the pool or the magnificent Cove Beach Bar and Restaurant, the active guest will have no shortage of truly memorable activities. There is a fully equipped Gym in the Great House. Down the hill, Basketball, Pickleball or Tennis anyone? See what Activities Director Ben Zerin has on offer. The genial islander can set you up with bicycles, kayaks, paddle boards–even a Hobie Cat. Sailrock has it. Not to be missed are Ben’s excellent adventures on a Fishing Boat that sails from Cockburn Harbor. A quick trip into town and you’ll board a sparkling outboard motorboat that speeds across water that is simply unbelievably beautiful. You can try you hand at fishing or literally walk in water where this writer was dazzled by bright orange starfish and pure white sanddollars. You can visit a deserted island populated with Iguanas. Or just go along for the ride and watch crewmen David and Leo dive for conchs and rock lobster. These will be taken back to Sailrock to grace your table at dinner tonight. And after an active day, return to the pleasures of the Na Spa where Balinese massage is de rigeur. Masseur Eko is Balinese-born and trained.
SAILROCK IS ALL ABOUT ITS PEOPLE
You’ll notice it the minute you arrive. You’ll be greeted as if you were cherished old friend. That’s because the Hotelier behind Sailrock is one of the world’s greatest hosts. André Boersma, born in Barbados, educated in Canada and a citizen of the world is Sailrock’s Managing Director. A veteran of Rosewood, One & Only, Auberge and Viceroy resorts, André has a passion for people. At Sailrock, he has assembled a team who are devoted to your comfort and to making your vacation a flawless experience from start to finish. André has literally gone to the ends of the earth to find people. He has recruited his team from Bhutan to the Phillippines, from the Dominican Republic to the brilliant talent he found right here on South Caicos. And a surprising number of them speak more than one language.
NOT SURPRISINGLY, SAILROCK WAS AWARDED THE CARIBBEAN’S LEADING LUXURY ISLAND RESORT BY THE WORLD TRAVEL AWARDS
For the Fifth year running, Sailrock was given this symbol of excellence. And most excitingly it was her own guests and home owners who voted to honor Sailrock with this award.
