Silversea: plans for the world’s southernmost hotel
Silversea has announced plans to develop a hotel in Puerto Williams, Chile, the world’s southernmost city, to provide guests with an unparalleled experience in exploring Antarctica’s rugged landscape.
The new hotel will ensure a seamless journey to the ‘White Continent,’ allowing guests to enjoy Silversea‘s signature personalized service and warm hospitality throughout their expedition. Travelers participating in the cruise line’s Antarctica Bridge fly-cruise program, the fastest and most direct route to the continent, will fly directly to Puerto Williams from Santiago, Chile’s capital, for an enhanced experience.
The 150-room hotel, slated for completion by the end of 2025, will be built in collaboration with a consortium of Chilean investors. A ground-breaking ceremony marked the start of construction, attended by partners, Chilean government officials, and key stakeholders.
Silversea is the only cruise line that homeports in Puerto Williams during the Antarctica season. Situated in Chile’s Patagonia region, the sub-Antarctic town serves as an ideal gateway for travellers venturing to the planet’s least explored continent. From there, Silversea guests will have the opportunity to discover Antarctica’s uninhabited islands, snow-capped peaks, spectacular icescapes, and diverse wildlife.
Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, stated that this hotel represents a new level of luxury for Antarctic travel, offering an unparalleled expedition experience and expanding Silversea’s portfolio of world-class vacations. He also emphasized that, together with the expert teams in Chile, the company is providing guests with a unique opportunity to explore one of the most extraordinary and remote destinations in the world. Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea, expressed his excitement about enhancing the Antarctic travel experience by offering seamless journeys that remove the traditional barriers of the region. He highlighted that this development sets the company’s offerings apart from other polar expeditions, reaffirming Silversea’s commitment to innovation and excellence while continuing to be a leader in the luxury travel sector.
The hotel, nestled along the Beagle Channel and surrounded by pristine forest, will offer scenic views of the water and Patagonian mountains. Amenities will include a spacious restaurant for group gatherings, a bar and lounge, a fitness centre, and a boutique featuring local handicrafts and art. The hotel’s architecture will blend with the natural surroundings, drawing inspiration from local art, architecture, and materials.
Silversea is committed to creating long-term partnerships with the Puerto Williams community, fostering economic growth while preserving the area’s unique cultural heritage and minimizing environmental impact. With over 15 years of experience in polar expeditions, Silversea continues to set the standard in luxury travel. The new hotel will further diversify the brand’s polar offerings and strengthen its leadership in the expedition segment. Silversea’s luxurious expedition ships, Silver Endeavour, Silver Wind, and Silver Cloud will offer six to 20-day Antarctic voyages for travellers seeking to explore the region in uncompromised luxury. The Antarctica Bridge fly-cruise program offers a time-saving alternative by skipping the Drake Passage, allowing guests to fly directly to Antarctica. Expert guides lead expeditions, with a nearly 1:1 crew-to-guest ratio ensuring top-tier service, including butler service for every suite.
