Windstar revamps Wind Surf: a New Glow to the Seas

Wind Surf, the iconic sailing ship of Windstar Cruises, is set to unveil a completely refreshed look thanks to an ambitious two-phase renovation project.

The first phase, completed last November at the shipyards in Cadiz, Spain, transformed many of the ship’s public spaces, making it even more welcoming and modern. The second phase, scheduled for December 2026, will finalize the renewal process.

Wind Surf will return to service on December 21, 2024, with a Caribbean cruise, followed by a special New Year’s Eve “Beach Fun & Sun” cruise departing on December 28. Travel enthusiasts can also book the Grand Caribbean adventure, a 55-day cruise visiting 28 islands and 39 ports, from January 4 to February 28, 2025.

This multimillion-dollar project goes beyond a mere aesthetic update, introducing numerous enhancements designed to provide a sophisticated and comfortable experience. Among the key upgrades in the first phase, the newly reimagined lobby welcomes guests with a warmer and more inviting atmosphere, featuring new furnishings and a more functional layout. The onboard boutique has been expanded and enriched, offering an experience comparable to luxury brand stores.

The Compass Rose lounge bar now features a modern design with touches of blue and orange, an elegant bar counter, and a new multifunctional stage for events and performances. The Amphora restaurant, the ship’s main dining venue, has been completely revamped with a design inspired by marine elements such as pearls and sea glass. The color palette evokes sunsets, and the new furnishings include comfortable seating arrangements for groups of 2 to 8 people.

On deck, the space has been designed to maximize ocean views, with modern outdoor furniture, soothing natural colors, and a bar surrounded by tropical scenery. Additionally, new Broadmoor and Sea Island suites, inspired by The Broadmoor luxury resort in Colorado and Sea Island in Georgia, have been introduced. The Owner’s Suite, located near the bridge, now boasts a high-end nautical design.

Every cabin has been equipped with interactive TVs and the Wayfinder app, allowing guests to browse schedules, menus, movies, and more. These technological upgrades significantly enhance the onboard experience, making the stay more intuitive and enjoyable.

The second phase of the renovation, planned for 2026, will focus on cabin furnishings and décor, along with updates to the Stella Bistro, the Veranda, and the fitness studio. This project is part of a multi-year initiative involving all ships in the Wind class: Wind Star has already completed the first phase, while Wind Spirit will begin renovations in 2026.

Windstar Cruises’ COO, Stijn Creupelandt, noted that Wind Surf is a favorite among the company’s loyal customers, who return year after year to sail on this ship. He expressed excitement about the opportunity to provide a refreshed environment and updated technologies to enhance guest comfort. Creupelandt also shared his eagerness to personally welcome guests aboard during the holiday cruises and celebrate the ship’s exciting transformation.

With its unique blend of sailing tradition and modernity, Wind Surf promises an unforgettable experience for its guests. To learn more about the ship’s renovations, visit our Cruising Journal or the official Windstar Cruises website.
