Sea Cloud Spirit: maiden call in Hamburg
Germany’s youngest windjammer will set sail for Hamburg for the first time. Coming from London, the new Sea Cloud Spirit will dock in the center of the Hanseatic city at around 6pm on June 16th.
For Sea Cloud Spirit‘s first voyage to the Elbe metropolis, Hamburg-based Sea Cloud Cruises put together a program that combines the sailing experience on a traditional windjammer with classic cultural fun.
The preview voyage will take the ship from London to Cowes / Isle of Wight, Ostend and Antwerp. During the voyage, the ship’s salon will be transformed into a concert hall. In collaboration with grand piano manufacturer Steinway & Sons, pianists Arash Rokni and Cunmo Yin, two outstanding artists from the Steinway Prizewinner Concerts Network, will perform on board.
After a long day of sailing in the North Sea, the impressive upstream journey to Hamburg will begin in the Elbe Estuary off Cuxhaven on the morning of June 16th. The last stretch upstream of the stream in the city of Hamburg is considered one of the most beautiful port entrances in the world.
While a fire boat, harbor ships and numerous pleasure boats accompany the newcomer, guests will be able to enjoy the unique perspective from the deck with a glass of champagne in hand.
Guests on the preview trip will then be invited to an evening of concerts in the Great Hall of the Elbphilharmonie. Under the direction of its conductor Herbert Blomstedt, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra will perform pieces by Mozart and Bruckner.
After the first stopover, Sea Cloud Spirit will make four extended Baltic Sea voyages with the Nordic capitals. She will then depart Hamburg for two shorter cruises to the North Sea and to Sylt. The return journey from Hamburg to the Mediterranean will begin on 22 August.
