Silversea: Luxury Cruises to Alaska and Iceland

Ultra-Luxury Cruise Line, Silversea, has just announced sparkling itineraries to two of the world’s northernmost cruise destinations: Alaska and Iceland.

Alaska and Iceland sailings begin this July bringing Silversea’s style to every voyage. These new itineraries join June’s announcement of its sailings in Greece and in the Galapagos.  Both Flagship Silver Moon and Silver Origin, the line’s purpose-built Galápagos explorer, set sail on June 18th for a return to summer cruising.

Silversea is the first ultra-luxury cruise line to sail to Alaska this summer.

With the passage of the U.S. Alaska Tourism Restoration Act, Silversea is finally able to set sail to the “Last Frontier”. The Act allowed cruises to Alaska without previously mandated stops in Canada.  The glorious Silver Muse will resume sailings from Seattle starting July 29th.

These 10- to 11-day itineraries offer guests a pathway to some of Alaska’s most breathtaking landscapes including both the Sawyer and the Mendenhall Glaciers. Stops at Ketchikan, Juneau, Wrangell, Skagway and Russian-influenced Sitka will allow Silversea’s pampered passengers to experience both the state’s wildlife and its remote communities.

At every port, Silversea offers a complementary shore excursion.

For an additional fee, diverse experiences are also on offer. These include the following highlights.  From Juneau, Silversea guests can board a helicopter to experience the Mendenhall Glacier by air before touching down of the Glacier itself.  Special glacier boots are provided to enable guests to walk across this immense ice field with a tour guide well-versed in knowledge about glaciers.

As an alternative Mendenhall experience, Silver Muse passengers can admire the Glacier from the comfort of a catamaran. This three-hour whale quest from Auke bay will be on the lookout for marine animals.  An on-board naturalist will be aboard to explain the behavior and habitat of the wildlife guests may encounter.  These include humpback and ‘killer’ whales to Stellar Sea Lions, Harbor Seals and Bald Eagles.  From Skagway, Alaska’s Gold Rush comes vividly alive aboard a vintage train that goes all the way to the Yukon, taking in the state’s natural beauty in every mile.

A burgeoning demand brought Silversea back to Iceland

No stranger to Iceland, “The land of Fire and Ice”, Silversea had previously announced its largest ever collection of voyages in Iceland.  Side-lined by the pandemic but buoyed by exceptionally strong guest feedback, Silversea’s intimate, ultra-luxury Silver Shadow will set out on three roundtrip voyages from the country’s capitol, Reykjavik on July 30th , and August 9th and 19th. Circumnavigating this breath-taking country, Silver Shadow will stop in 7 ports. Guests will marvel at volcanoes and glacier-sculpted fjords, walk across lava fields, witness magnificent waterfalls and bubbling hot springs. And they are all included.

Immersive shore excursions are included in the fare.

On an insightful half-day tour from Akureyri, Silversea passengers will discover Iceland’s vast lava fields, bubbling hot pools, hissing fumaroles, breathtaking waterfalls, and internationally-acclaimed birdlife. From Grundarfjordur,  guests will board a small boat before sailing to an island renowned for its large colony of nesting Atlantic Puffins. For the adventuresome, an all-terrain vehicle adventure is on offer from Heimaey, on which travelers will witness the spectacular beauty of the Vestmannaeyjar Archipelago and the Eldfell Volcano. There’s also an unforgettable 4×4 glacier safari with an ice cave visit. And for the culinary-inclined, guests can join an authentic journey into Iceland’s herring tradition in Siglufjordur with a tasting.

All-Inclusive Luxury

Silver Muse and Silver Shadow are among the most spacious, luxurious ships at sea.
