Star Seeker: The Return to Alaska and Japan in 2026
Windstar Cruises, the small ship cruise line, has revealed its plan to position its new ship, Star Seeker, in Alaska and Japan when it joins the fleet in 2026.
The last time Windstar sailed in Alaska and Japan was in 2023, before moving Star Breeze to Tahiti year-round. Windstar Cruises has now confirmed that the new vessel, Star Seeker, will revive the popular routes in Alaska and Japan in 2026.
Star Seeker will sail in Alaska from May to August with 7, 10, and 11-day cruises between Juneau or Seward, Alaska, and Vancouver, B.C. Land tours before and after the cruise to Denali will also be available. After leaving Alaska in late August, Star Seeker will head to Japan to begin the popular 10-day Grand Japan cruises between Tokyo and Osaka. The ship will remain in Japan until November.
Windstar expects the details of Star Seeker’s new deployment, including Alaska and Japan, to be online and bookable by early August 2024.
In Alaska, Windstar will employ onboard expedition leaders to guide its Signature Expeditions, as it has in previous Alaskan destinations. To explore wild and remote areas like the Misty Fjords, guests can book walking, kayaking, and skiff tours from the ship to experience close-up adventures in small groups led by an expert guide who will provide a comprehensive exploration throughout the journey. Expedition leaders will also give presentations onboard to share the rich history, culture, flora, and fauna of Alaska.

“These engaging, small-group expeditions are a key part of our Alaska program and bring our guests closer to the beauty of Alaska,” said Prelog. “Being on the water and seeing the topography from that perspective makes you appreciate the grandeur of Alaska. It’s also peaceful and meditative to be in these wild places. You never know what wildlife you might see.”
In April, Windstar had already announced the addition of two new ships – Star Seeker and Star Explorer – to its boutique yacht fleet. Each will have 112 suites for a capacity of 224 guests and will be similar to the company’s current Star-class motor yachts. Star Seeker will be delivered to Windstar in December 2025, and Star Explorer in December 2026.
