The rhythms of the Brazilian coast with Scenic Cruises

With Scenic Cruises, you can explore part of South America by taking a cruise along the Brazilian and Uruguayan coastlines, visiting remote and undiscovered hidden gems.

During the “Rhythms of the Brazilian Coastline” cruise, guests will have the opportunity to join Tom Götter, experienced sailor and Top Chef World All-Star, and Gabri Rodriguez, Michelin-starred chef. The cruise begins in the vibrant Rio de Janeiro, sailing along the Brazilian and Uruguayan coasts to admire the natural beauty and feel the tropical vibes of beaches and forests. During this new cruise of the Tastes of Discovery series, guests will be amazed by the creations of Chef Gabri Rodriguez, a finalist on Top Chef Mexico, with a harmony of traditional flavors and contemporary techniques translating into exquisite and avant-garde dishes. On land, guests can admire the tropical forests of Ilha Grande. Finally, they will arrive in Buenos Aires, the “Paris of South America,” with its rich cultural heritage, lively nightlife, and European-inspired architecture.

The journey begins as soon as guests board in the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro. Among Rio’s famous shores, known for its Christ the Redeemer statue and surrounded by green peaks, Scenic Eclipse will welcome guests with a warm greeting and a glass of champagne. Once on board, guests can familiarize themselves with the luxurious offerings of the Discovery Yacht, toasting the beginning of this 11-night adventure in the Sky Bar on the upper deck, while saluting the coastline.

On the second day, guests can be enchanted by the paradisiacal beaches of Búzios, as French actress Brigitte Bardot once was. A simple fishing village until the 1960s, Búzios is now one of Brazil’s most exclusive neighborhoods, with elegant shops, refined restaurants, secluded villas, and chic bars. Búzios is a charming combination of three resorts on a small peninsula, each with its own style. The cruise continues to Ilha Grande, a natural paradise with expansive ocean views and tropical forest. Here, guests can immerse themselves in nature and stroll beneath the tree canopies admiring the wildlife.

The next stop will be Paraty, with its cobbled streets and white buildings. Bold blocks of primary colors with architectural accents highlight the steep mountains, veiled by bands of emerald leaves. Exploring here is a discovery of nature and culture. Here you can go in search of emblematic insects that live in this region, observe countless birds, kaleidoscopic parrots, and flying hummingbirds. The cobbled streets and white buildings of Paraty will surely invite anyone to take out their camera for a few shots.

On the fifth day, you will go to explore Ilhabela. In Portuguese, Ilhabela means “Beautiful Island,” you will clearly understand the reason. With its steep volcanic peaks emerging from the densely forested equatorial jungle, it also hosts a multitude of waterfalls, flowering plant species, and breathtaking beaches. Here you can admire the protected fauna in this UNESCO World Heritage biosphere reserve, including the monkeys performing their acrobatics. The next stop will be Ponta do Sul, isolated and peaceful, it is a 35-kilometer natural reserve known for having the most beautiful beaches in the Brazilian state of Paraná. No roads, no cars, just virgin forest, soft sand, and narrow trails for exploration. One of the highlights is that this part of the world has been visited by very few tourists, a unique and remote place. Here guests will spend the day exploring the coasts, enjoying the sun or taking advantage of the water sports facilities available.

On the seventh day, you can visit one of Brazil’s richest historical cities, São Francisco do Sul, founded in the early 16th century. The cobbled streets and colonial buildings, many of which are listed on the National Historic Register, are a testament to its history. Sailing towards the island, you will be able to enjoy the best views of the city, with its pastel-colored houses with arched windows and elegant balconies. Hosting Brazil’s only Boat Museum, the old town leads to the discovery of the country’s maritime history. Nearby, the beaches and coves stretch endlessly, and you can spend the day walking under the blue sky or exploring the sea in search of marine life. If weather and permissions allow, it will also be possible to admire the city from above, suspended above the ocean tides and biscuit-colored beaches from one of the two Scenic helicopters.

After two days of sailing, you will arrive at Punta del Este. Since the early 20th century, this sun-kissed peninsula has had the reputation of being the preferred destination of wealthy people. Nicknamed the “Monaco of the South,” the iconic city of Punta Del Este and its incredible beaches attract visitors from all over the world. Playa Brava, one of Punta’s main beaches, is home to the famous sculpture of finger points emerging from the soft, golden sand, called “La Mano.” Among other sculptures in the city, art galleries and museums give Punta del Este an artistic and eclectic atmosphere that makes it an exceptional destination.

Next, you can discover Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, with numerous buildings and residences of architectural importance. The Plaza de la Independencia, which once housed a Spanish fortress in the center of the city, leads to splendid Art Deco structures and monuments, including the neoclassical Solís theater, which opened its doors in 1856. Visitors will find themselves in a lively city, full of vitality, with musical comedies and cozy tango bars side by side.

The journey ends in Buenos Aires, one of the most lively and cosmopolitan cities in the world. There is much to discover, so after bidding farewell to new friends and the crew members of Scenic Eclipse, you can take some time to explore Argentine culture and cuisine.
