A Great Italian Beauty sets Sail for Silversea
Silver Dawn, the third sister in Silversea’s Muse series set sail from Lisbon last month. The 40,700- ton beauty became Silversea’s 10th ship, and the third the ultra-luxury cruise line has launched in just the last 9 months. She was preceded by Silversea’s purpose-built Galapagos exploration ship, Silver Origin. And she set sail just months after her sister, Silver Moon, which debuted in the Mediterranean last summer.
What sets Silver Dawn apart from her sisters?
This writer, having been privileged to have sailed on all three glorious ships, is reluctant to say which sister is his favorite. There’s a great deal to be said for Silver Muse. She became the standard for this, Silversea’s new class of vessel. Like her sisters, her passenger compliment of 596 is served by an astonishing 411 crewmembers, all of whom seem to have nothing but passenger comfort in mind. Her generously-sized suites started at an astonishing 334 sq feet. She ushered in a new era of luxury travel proving that small-ship intimacy, a hallmark of the Silversea brand, could be enhanced in her slightly larger frame. She was followed into service by Silver Moon. This beautiful ship introduced one of the most significant new advancements in Silversea history. She was the first vessel to offer Silversea’s astonishing Culinary Arts Program, S.A.L.T. (Sea And Land Taste) in full bloom. Now her sister ship, Silver Dawn brings that program to its full potential. And that’s not all the only difference aboard Silver Dawn.
Silver Dawn launches an Extraordinary New Spa Program Otium
In a clear salute to its Italian roots, Silver Dawn introduces Otium, a spa program with its roots in the Roman Empire. Built on the concept of the Roman Spa, Otium promotes “The Original Art Of Comfort”. And it is quite unlike any wellness program on land or at sea. The Romans imagined the spa as a place of total relaxation. It was not simply a place where they indulged in health-centric activities and soothing massages. It was a gathering place where food and drink were savored, where conversation and conviviality ruled. Aboard Silver Dawn, Otium extends far beyond its boundaries in the ship’s magnificent spa. It can be experienced in every suite on the ship. It starts with remarkable new bedding—new mattresses to sink into, luxurious bed linens to caress you and a whole new pillow menu to choose from. And to take full advantage of the spa tubs found in every suite, Otium presents guests with the pleasures of the bath. Your butler, and every single suite has one, can draw your bath, adding scents and potions of your choosing. And after your bath, there are more indulgences. On offer is an extraordinary menu of ‘nibbles’ of the highest order. Think Foie Gras Burgers and Lobster Rolls. Think Caviar and Macarons. Think Truffled Popcorn to accompany a movie in the privacy of your suite. Even your balcony—and all but 8 suites have one—can be turned into a private oasis whatever the weather. If it’s cold, have a hot chocolate. If it’s warm, an elixir of fruit or vegetables.
Silver Dawn shows off S.A.L.T. in all its wonderful variety.
This writer feels incredibly fortunate to have seen Silversea’s brilliant culinary arts program from the very beginning. A creation of Barbara Muckermann, Silversea’s now Chief Commercial Officer, S.A.L.T Sea And Land Taste enlisted Culinary Authority, Adam Sachs. Adam served as Editor or Saveur Magazine and is a James-Beard Awarded Food Writer. To say he knows his way around the world of food, is an understatement. Aboard Silver Dawn, the opportunities to explore the world through its cuisine have never been so complete. There’s S.A.L.T. Bar, a cozy nook that serves the world’s great cocktails and wines. There’s S.A.L.T. Lab which offers hands-on cooking instruction specific to Silver Dawn’s ports of call. They may have already tasted what they are making in S.A.L.T. Kitchen. This light filled restaurant astonishes by offering menus specific to Silver Dawn’s itineraries and that change virtually every night. And there’s even more. On land, S.A.L.T. shore excursions are amazing expeditions into food culture. It’s not all white gloves and tablecloths. Instead, you’ll be escorted to local finds only a master like Adam Sachs is privy to. Chances are there will be a local food maven aboard to round out the S.A.L.T. experience with talks about food throughout your voyage.
Silver Dawn will spend the Spring and Summer months in Silversea’s native Mediterranean.
A series of voyages ranging from 7 days can be combined for weeks of ultra-luxury travel. In November, the ship will visit Africa from Lisbon. Then she will set sail across the Atlantic to the Caribbean and Central America where she will spend the winter cruising its warm waters.
