Aida Cruises: ready to resume cruises in August

The cruise company AIDA Cruises has just released details about their new health and safety procedures on board and on the beginning of their gradual resumption of cruises, now scheduled to begin mid-August.

In the month of August 2020 at least 5 Aida Cruises itineraries are scheduled to resume:

  • As of August 15, 2020 AIDAperla (Hamburg city)
  • As of August 15, 2020 AIDAprima (Baltic Sea from Kiel)
  • As of August 15, 2020 AIDAdiva (Norwegian fjords of Warnemünde)
  • As of August 25, 2020 AIDAsol (Norwegian fjords with Geiranger)
  • As of August 30, 2020 AIDAbella (Brief trip in Denmark)

On board, a series of new rules will try to ensure that guests travel in complete safety thanks to adequate social distancing and maximum compliance with hygiene rules. Beyond those that were already in place, cleaning procedures have been intensified and new prevention measures have been added, from the beginning of the reservations process to the preparations for travel, to the embarking and disembarking in the ports, to the onboard stay and the medical assistance. Guests will be asked to fill out a digital health questionnaire before departure as well as have their temperature taken during check-in. There will also be new signage on arrival and in all environments used for boarding procedures. On board, all the areas will have a reduced number of people allowed, and intensified cleaning and sanitization of all environments will be carried out 24 hours a day.

Medical assistance for all guests and crew members will be guaranteed all day and the ships will all have CRP test kits and diagnostic machines for immediate test results for COVID-19. Together with the responsible authorities, there have been put in place emergency procedures in the case of coronavirus on board, with immediate disembarkation of guests and methods to prevent diffusion, following the WHO guidelines and in collaboration with the Robert Koch Institute and the SGS Fresenius Institute.

AIDA Cruises is already working hard on the following phase of restarting. A second opening of other European ports to cruise ships could widen the itineraries possible in the coming months. The third phase will hopefully be a return to the itineraries already scheduled for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, if conditions allow it.
