Alfred Maritime: Energy and Artificial Intelligence

Alfred Maritime, the digital startup of the Meyer Group, unveiled the first artificial intelligence-based energy management system for cruise ships during the Seatrade Cruise Global, the most important event for the cruise industry.

The Meyer Group’s digital enterprise was founded in 2019 with the primary goal of digitizing modern ships through the Internet of Things and AI, as well as providing data and intelligence for next-generation vessels. All of this with the help of Meyer’s dedicated energy efficiency team, which boasts over 300 years of combined experience in shipbuilding in Turku and Papenburg.

The new Meyer Energy Management System platform was thus developed by Alfred’s IIoT and data experts in collaboration with the Meyer Energy Efficiency Team and is intended to enhance operational efficiency on ships. The Meyer energy management system supports naval operators and crews in understanding and analyzing ship performance. The platform provides crew members with valuable information to optimize energy efficiency and reduce fuel consumption, and when combined with accurate performance forecasts from multiple onboard systems, it helps reduce the ship’s emissions.

“We have combined our knowledge of maritime operations and ship design with artificial intelligence, data modeling, machine learning, and simulation models to make ships more efficient and therefore greener,” says Dr. Paul Meyer, CEO of Alfred Maritime and Chief Information Officer of the Meyer Group.

Simulation models and real-time data collected from multiple onboard systems in a modern IoT platform enable quick decisions by the crew to optimize performance while also providing full data transparency for the naval operator. Thanks to an intuitive dashboard, the crew can also understand ship performance with minimal training and effort.
