Aqua Expeditions Expands into East Africa
Aqua Expeditions is expanding its fleet with a new yacht that will offer cruises to the Seychelles and Zanzibar, Tanzania, in 2025, with inaugural departures scheduled for December 2025 across four different itineraries.
The yacht expeditions will feature 5- and 9-night itineraries exploring the inner and outer islands of the Seychelles, respectively, with options to combine these itineraries for a comprehensive 14-night exploration. Guests will enjoy a superyacht experience, with an exclusive 1:1 crew-to-guest ratio, personalized service, cuisine led by world-renowned chefs, and small group excursions guided by experts showcasing the best of each destination.
CEO and founder Francesco Galli Zugaro expressed his excitement about this major development, sharing that exploring East Africa has always been a dream of his, and he is now eager to take guests on a journey to discover the beauty of the Indian Ocean and the famous Aldabra Atoll, home to over 150,000 giant tortoises.

Since 2007, Aqua has grown to navigate eight destinations with three river ships and two superyachts, and this latest fleet expansion will see Aqua’s sixth vessel lead the company’s entry into Africa. The goal is to offer an exclusive experience that has been carefully crafted and perfected in the waters of South America and Southeast Asia. Sailing between the Seychelles and Tanzania, guests will have the opportunity to visit biodiversity hotspots such as Aldabra, Cosmoledo, Astove, Furquhar Atoll, Kilwa Kisiwani, and Pemba. As usual, the expedition will also visit destinations like the African Banks, which are rarely explored by other cruise ships in the region.
Aqua’s fleet expansion is driven by financing from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. This partnership strengthens the brand’s leadership position as an innovator in the luxury expedition sphere, demonstrating Aqua’s continued dedication to sustainable tourism, community engagement, and the development of local talent, while providing customers with luxury adventures to some of the world’s most biodiverse and culturally significant destinations.
