Birka Cruises ceases its cruising activities
From March 16 on the ship of the company has been docked in Mariehamn, where it is currently still located, due to the global pandemic that brought to a halt all the cruises in the world. The Birka Stockholm usually offered 22-hour cruises from the Swedish capital to Mariehamn, with combinable round-trip itineraries.
As of mid-April, Rederi Ab Eckerö began laying off the staff in service on both the Birka Stockholm and the Eckerö, leaving only indispensable staff on board and in the offices in Sweden. At the moment it isn’t clear what the future holds for this beautiful ship built in 2004 as all of its activities are suspended. Birka Cruises offered a wonderful way to enjoy the Swedish capital with cruises full of Scandinavian style and great cuisine on board.
