Emerald Cruises: The christening of Emerald Luna


Emerald Cruises‘ new Star-Ship Emerald Luna, which will sail on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers in Europe, was christened on July 21stat a ceremony in Amsterdam.

In attendance for Scenic Group, parent company of Emerald Cruises, were Rob Voss, COO – Scenic Group; David Winterton, Global Brand and Marketing Director; Maggie Carbonell, VP Marketing – Scenic Group USA; and Ann Chamberlin, VP Sales – Scenic Group USA; as well as Monic van der Heyden, sales director, Cruise Port Amsterdam, Johan Kaasjager, managing director, Den Breejen Shipyard, aswell as embarking guests and local dignitaries.

Award-winning U.S. travel industry advocate and educator Vanessa McGovern received the honors as godmother during the official ceremony.

“It is a true honor and privilege to be named godmother of this magnificent river ship,” said Vanessa. “I have long admired Emerald Cruises‘ commitment to working with travel consultants, and it is with great pleasure that I welcome Emerald Luna to the fleet and wish her well on her voyage.”

The 180-guest Emerald Luna features the line’s innovative balcony design in most staterooms, complete with covered area and an ingenious outdoor system, as well as an indoor pool with retractable roof and cinema at the stern of the ship.

Emerald Cruises offers a diverse range of river and yacht cruises on three continents. Emerald Azzurra, a 100-guest luxury yacht, cruises the warm waters of the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Red Seas, and new for the 2023/2024 season are Caribbean and Central America. Emerald Sakarawillbe the brand’s second luxury yacht and will be launched in 2023. On rivers, however, Emerald Cruises sails eight Star-Ships in Europe and one on the Mekong.
