Explora Journeys: bow trunk of Explora II launched
It was recently launched the bow section of Explora II, the second of four ships of Explora Journeys, a luxury brand of the Msc.
The launching of the approximately 5,000-ton trunk took place in Castellammare di Stabia, the same place where Explora II‘s sheeting was cut in October 2021.
All the procedures of the launching went as planned, with much joy and happiness on the part of the workers and all those working on this project for reaching another important milestone.
Explora II then said goodbye to Castellammare di Stabia to head to the Sestri plant where it will be completed, and then wait until 2024 for its launch, which will take place in Barcelona.
The unit, when completed, will have a tonnage of about 64,000 tons and will be equipped with the latest technology available. With 461 suites, it will feature highly innovative design, including in terms of passenger comfort and relaxation.
Exlpora II is the second of six newly designed luxury cruise ships that Fincantieri is building for “Explora Journeys“. The order for this class of ships, announced in 2018, has a total value of more than 2 billion euros. “Explora II” will be delivered in 2024 while the class-leading unit, “Explora I“, is under construction in Monfalcone and will be delivered at the end of May 2023. In July 2022, in fact, Explora Journeys and Fincantieri announced the signing of a memorandum of agreement to build two additional hydrogen-powered luxury cruise ships, bringing the total number of the fleet from four to six vessels.
