Fincantieri: Green Ships for Marella Cruises

Fincantieri has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with TUI AG for the design and construction of two new cruise ships for the Marella Cruises brand.

The agreement represents a significant milestone for the cruise company, as it commissions newly built units for the first time, marking the beginning of a new strategic collaboration for the Italian shipbuilding group. This step confirms Fincantieri’s role as a key player in the shipbuilding industry and strengthens its presence in an ever-evolving market.

The ships, designed to meet the needs of the British market, will feature a special focus on environmental sustainability, an elegant design, high-quality materials, and spacious, comfortable interiors, with the goal of redefining the premium cruise experience.

The delivery of the two units is scheduled for 2030 and 2032, a timeframe that will allow for the integration of the latest technological innovations and ensure high standards of efficiency and safety. The goal is to create a product that stands out not only for its comfort and aesthetics but also for its environmental performance, an increasingly central aspect of the cruise industry.

Fincantieri’s CEO and General Manager, Pierroberto Folgiero, highlighted the importance of this new collaboration, emphasizing how the agreement demonstrates the company’s ability to forge strategic partnerships with an expanding clientele.

He also pointed out that the project enhances the group’s long-term visibility and ensures a high level of production capacity utilization at its shipyards. Finally, he stressed that the initiative will enhance Fincantieri’s expertise in ship design, innovation, and sustainability, meeting the evolving expectations of modern cruise passengers.

This approach reflects Fincantieri’s commitment to remaining at the forefront in an increasingly competitive sector, where the demand for environmentally friendly and technologically advanced solutions is constantly growing.

The Fincantieri group already boasts a strong collaboration with TUI Cruises, a joint venture between TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises. Last February, it delivered the Mein Schiff Relax, the first unit of a new class of dual-fuel ships (liquefied natural gas – LNG – and marine gas oil – MGO) named InTUItion.

Currently, the second ship of the same class, Mein Schiff Flow, is under construction at the Monfalcone shipyard, with delivery scheduled for 2026. This type of fuel represents a significant step toward reducing the environmental impact of cruise ships, demonstrating Fincantieri’s ongoing commitment to sustainable solutions and cutting-edge technologies.

With this new agreement, Fincantieri further strengthens its position as a leader in the shipbuilding industry, confirming its ability to provide innovative and sustainable solutions to meet the demands of the international cruise market.

The company continues to invest in the development of cutting-edge projects, aiming to anticipate industry needs and offer its clients increasingly advanced solutions. This agreement not only opens up new business opportunities but also demonstrates the growing trust that leading operators in the sector place in Fincantieri, recognizing its excellence in designing and building next-generation ships.
