Msc Cruises takes delivery of Msc World Europa
MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique celebrated today in Saint-Nazaire the delivery of MSC World Europa, the world’s most advanced “green” cruise ship, bringing the number of ships in the Msc Cruises fleet to 20.
The handover ceremony marked an important moment in the long-term and successful partnership between the two companies that resulted in the largest, most innovative and ecologically advanced cruise ship in the MSC Cruises fleet.
The first ship of the new “World Class,” it sets new standards for the cruise industry and represents the future of the cruise industry, offering a world of different experiences.
MSC World Europa, as stated by Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of MSC Group’s Cruise Division, represents the new phase of the journey to zero emissions and sustainable cruising, symbolizing Msc’s unwavering commitment in this regard. In fact, it is the first contemporary cruise ship in the world to feature a brand new solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions substantially compared to the conventional LNG engine. It also features a wide range of equipment to optimize energy use throughout the ship, an advanced wastewater treatment system, and minimizes underwater noise impact.
MSC World Europa will also redefine the cruise experience with a never-before-seen offering thanks to its innovative design with ultra-modern environments and spaces, but also thanks to new features in World Class.
Also celebrated today in Saint-Nazaire was the “cutting of the sheet metal” of the second “World Class” ship, which will be called MSC World America and will be destined for the North American market when she enters service in 2025.
