Ocean Albatros: The First Halal Cruise to Antarctica

Albatros Expeditions has recently announced the first Halal-certified cruise to Antarctica: a unique 10-day adventure aboard the Ocean Albatros, which adheres to Muslim traditions while offering breathtaking explorations.

This one-of-a-kind journey, departing on January 3, 2026, will offer a 10-day experience exploring the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. Onboard the Ocean Albatros, passengers will have the opportunity to explore the Last Continent with the assurance that their religious and cultural needs will be respected, thanks to a fully Halal-certified kitchen—a first for Antarctic expeditions.

This cruise marks a historic milestone for the company, as it is the first time an Antarctic expedition will feature a Halal-certified kitchen, ensuring Muslim travelers the opportunity to enjoy a fully Halal experience, with dedicated menus and an alcohol-free environment. Among the many services offered are those specifically designed for Muslim guests, such as women-only sauna hours with stunning panoramic views, as well as access to an onboard gym and Jacuzzi.

This voyage, named “Antarctica – Halal Cruise 2026” will provide the chance to admire wildlife, extraordinary landscapes, and the gigantic icebergs of the most remote continent on Earth. The Ocean Albatros, a ship built specifically to navigate icy waters, will guide travelers on this adventure. After departing from Ushuaia, Argentina, the ship will cross the legendary Drake Passage to reach the South Shetland Islands on the third day of sailing, weather permitting. The expedition will continue south to the Antarctic Peninsula, passing through the majestic Gerlache Strait, an area characterized by towering ice cliffs and snow-capped peaks.

Led by an experienced captain and a qualified expedition leader, participants will have the opportunity to land in Zodiacs to explore penguin colonies, admire breathtaking Antarctic views, and visit historical sites. Zodiac excursions will also allow for close encounters with icebergs, whales, and seals. Although the cruise is primarily designed for Muslim travelers, non-Muslims are also welcome, provided they are aware that only Halal-certified food and non-alcoholic beverages will be served onboard.

This adventure will be enriched by a series of daily experiences allowing participants to explore Antarctica to the fullest. After crossing the Drake Passage, the daily program will include activities such as landings and Zodiac cruises, lectures by the expedition team, and evening entertainment. The ship’s onboard facilities will offer every necessary comfort, including two restaurants, an observation lounge, a conference room, a piano bar, a gym, a spa with a sauna, a polar library, and a shop.

In summary, the first Halal-certified cruise to Antarctica represents an opportunity to explore the wonders of the most inaccessible continent on the planet in an environment that fully respects the cultural and religious needs of Muslim travelers.
