P&O Cruises: Arvia Technical Launch

Saturday, August 27, 2022: Arvia, a new cruise ship from P&O Cruises, will be launched and leave the covered dock of Meyer Werft shipyard.

The floatation device will start to maneuver in the morning around 9:00 am. Arvia will then moor on the outer dock of the shipyard, where the masts and funnel will be placed on the ship with a crane.

After the transfer, the interior fittings will be installed, and further technical tests will be carried out. The ship will remain in the shipyard’s portuntil Ems transport in October. Arvia will be the backdrop of the NDR2 Papenburg Festival from September 2 to 3, 2022.

Climate and/or production-related changes are possible when the ship is floated out.

Arvia is identical to its sister ship Iona, delivered in 2020. Its tonnage is over 180,000 GT. It is 344.5 meters long and 42 meters wide. Arvia has space for approximately 5,200 passengers. Like the Iona, Arvia runs on ecological Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), which is currently the cleanest form of propulsion in the marine industry.

LNG guarantees significantly lower pollution at sea, as neither sulfur oxides nor soot particles are released. Another highlight for passengers on board is the three-deck glass atrium, which offers unique views.

After moving Arvia, the construction dock will have space for Carnival Jubilee’s floating engine room module (FERU), which will be delivered at the end of 2023. Recently, the front of the cruise ship was built in blocks at Meyer Werft shipyard. The FERU was manufactured at the Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock and was relocated to Papenburg a week ago.
