Silversea takes delivery of Silver Ray

Silversea took delivery of Silver Ray, the second ship of the innovative Nova class, during a celebration in Eemshaven on May 14. The event was attended by Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group; Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea; Bernard Meyer, Chairman of Meyer Group; and Bernd Eikens, CEO of Meyer Group; as well as shipyard executives and Captain Alessandro Zanello.

Silver Ray had completed its technical and nautical trials in the North Sea on May 8, under the supervision of Captain Alessandro Zanello, the shipyard captain, and expert local pilots.

Silversea’s Nova class marks a new era of luxury at sea, introducing expansive open spaces with an asymmetrical design and 4,000 square meters of exterior glass that, combined with luxurious service, offer the best experiences in the ultra-luxury and expedition cruise sector. The innovative design of the Nova class ships allows guests to immerse themselves in destinations with extended views from every angle, such as on the pool decks overlooking the sea and in new outdoor spaces, the Dusk Bar and the Marquee. Additionally, these ships offer one of the most personalized service levels at sea, with a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.3, including butler service for all suites. Enhancing the onboard experience further is a wide selection of bars, restaurants, and lounges; Otium, the wellness program inspired by ancient Rome; and the innovative culinary program, Sea and Land Taste (S.A.L.T.). In terms of environmental conservation, Silver Ray, like its sister ship Silver Nova, is one of the most energy-efficient ultra-luxury cruise ships, marking an important step toward reducing emissions and carbon intensity.

During the ceremony, Jason Liberty expressed his excitement about welcoming this new gem to the fleet, emphasizing that providing the best vacation experiences responsibly is the company’s primary goal. Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea, added that Silver Ray, along with its sister ship Silver Nova, beautifully embodies the Royal Caribbean Group’s vision for the future of ultra-luxury and expedition cruising. He also stated that he is honored to welcome Silver Ray in his capacity as President of Silversea.

Bernd Eikens, CEO of the Meyer Group, expressed pride in delivering Silver Ray two days ahead of schedule, marking a milestone for the group. He highlighted how the entire Meyer Werft team worked hard with partners to bring this ship to life.

Silver Ray, after its inaugural voyage from Lisbon scheduled for June 15, will spend its inaugural season in the Mediterranean before crossing the Atlantic to the Americas in December 2024.
