MS Amera: renovation completed with many innovations
Phoenix Reisen‘s MS Amera has successfully completed significant renovation works, which have not only improved its aesthetic appearance but also introduced important technological innovations onboard.
The ship is back at sea, currently on breathtaking itineraries covering South America, from Brazil to Argentina to Chile, then crossing the Panama Canal in April before heading to its home port of Bremerhaven in Germany to kick off the 2024 summer season.
The refurbishment of MS Amera began in Gdansk, Poland, last September, with approximately 50 million euros spent on the entire project: now, however, guests onboard are enjoying the benefits of a ship that has been meticulously renovated.
Technical changes include the installation of new main engines and generators, the implementation of shore power connection, a completely revamped main electrical panel, and the installation of new propellers.
Significant attention and effort have been invested by the cruise operator from Bonn and the shipping company in modernizing guest common areas and cabins.
The renowned Ocean Restaurant now boasts a completely new look, and the pool area has been entirely redesigned. Many cabins now feature a convenient shower cubicle instead of a bathtub in the bathroom, and of course, upholstery has been replaced, wallpaper renewed, and new paint applied.
The ship is 205 meters long and has a crew of 460 people, who take great care of just over 800 passengers, ensuring their privacy and providing very attentive service to details.
MS Amera was launched in 1988 as the Royal Viking Sun for the Royal Viking Line and began operating for Cunard Line under the same name in 1994.
It was renamed Seabourn Sun when Seabourn Cruise Line acquired the ship in 1999, and in 2002, Seabourn transferred the ship to Holland America Line, renaming it Prinsendam; in 2018, it was sold to Phoenix Reisen, debuting in 2019 with the current name MS Amera.
