Sun Princess: Futuristic Ship and its Dome

Let’s get to know Sun Princess, as we await its debut in February 2024. The new generation Princess Cruises ship is under construction at Fincantieri in Monfalcone.

It will be the first in the Sphere Class with an area called “The Dome,” a multi-level covered bridge with a glass dome covering an indoor-outdoor pool. At night, the pool will be transformed into a stage for entertainment with lighting effects, water features, and the possibility to host aerial shows.

“Sun Princess is a new and bespoke ship platform, designed to simultaneously embrace Princess heritage while boldly pressing into the future with iconic, elegant and pure lines unique to our brand,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. “A show-stopping, first-of-its-kind Dome on the top deck and suspended glass Piazza in the center of Sun Princess offer innovative designs showcasing expansive ocean views for incredible opportunities to connect with the sea.”

Sun Princess will also become the largest Princess ship ever built at 175,500 tons, with 2,157 cabins (including 50 suites). It will have a maximum capacity of 4,300 guests. It will also be the first Princess ship to be dual-fueled, largely on liquefied natural gas.

Even the ship’s name is purposeful, passed down to a third generation. We remember the first Sun Princess, which operated from 1974 to 1988 (where the television program “The Love Boat” was filmed), and the second generation, which operated from 1995 to 2020.

Inside, the ship will offer suggestive locations such as the “Piazza“, a space spanning three decks with comfortable seats to admire the sea and its views. There will be bars and restaurants with 29 gastronomic choices that will delight the palate of cruise passengers.

The onboard experience will become exclusive by choosing suites in the Signature Collection. In addition to the premium services of the cabins, this will include access to the Signature Restaurant, Signature Lounge, and Signature Sun Deck, a private outdoor area within the Sanctuary. The Reserve Collection will cover Club Class cabin accommodations with the best resort-style mini-suites. They will have a balcony, private cabana, large outdoor lounge space, and reserved seats at the Collection Restaurant.

Princess Cruises has a wonderful ability to offer the best services of large cruise ships worldwide, with personalized service typical of smaller ships.

The Sun Princess will sail the Mediterranean for her inaugural spring and summer seasons, then set sail for voyages to the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale in fall 2024. Fincantieri has scheduled delivery of the second ship of the Princess Cruises Sphere Class for spring 2025.
