Windstar Cruises: Restyling for its Three Sailing Yachts
Windstar Cruises, the award-winning small ship cruise company, has announced a multimillion-dollar redesign for its three sailing yachts: Wind Star, Wind Spirit, and Wind Surf.
The first unit to undergo the refurbishment is Wind Star, which has already completed the initial phase and is currently in Lisbon, ready to welcome guests on board. A second refurbishment phase, scheduled for 2026, will focus on guest cabins, the main dining room Amphora, and the Veranda Restaurant. Wind Spirit will undergo a complete redesign and complete its refurbishment works in 2025, while Wind Surf will be renovated in two phases: in 2024 and 2026. The project includes a complete redesign of all public spaces with new layouts, furniture, wall and floor coverings, lighting, and more. Guest cabins, premium suites, and Owner’s Suites will be completely renovated, including new furniture, interactive TVs, and decorations.
“This multi-year, multimillion-dollar initiative aims to provide guests with enhanced spaces that promote relaxation and offer multifunctional features of an intimate-sized sailing yacht,” says Stijn Creupelandt, Vice President of Hotel Operations and Product Development at Windstar.
Highlights of the project for Wind Star in the fall of 2023 include:
The Lobby: a larger reception area with more seating and expanded retail space will be created. The Lounge: the layout will be redesigned to foster connections between people in a living room-like environment. New furniture, lighting, and finishes will enhance the area for daytime relaxation and evening entertainment. Spa and Fitness Center: designed with wellness in mind, these areas will have new finishes, colors, and state-of-the-art equipment. The Pool Deck: a focal point of every journey, has been expanded with the removal of the skylight, the addition of a new pool and jacuzzi, and the extension of the pool bar. New furniture includes sofas for relaxation and colorful poufs, ottomans, and chairs around the pool, while new speakers, lighting, and finishes are added to enhance the pool deck party fun.
Additionally, Artworks will be introduced through the company’s partnership with Fountainhead Arts in Miami, featuring a specially curated collection for Windstar with a common theme around the convergence of nature, organic materials, and the essence of yachting. Regarding Technology, new and larger TVs in each cabin will feature content, movies, and the company’s Wayfinder app; additional WiFi access points will provide improved Starlink internet connectivity.
“The inspiration for the design really developed from the yachts themselves,” explains Jessica Payne, Windstar‘s Interior Design Manager. “I studied both classic and modern yacht architecture to develop the sophisticated design foundation, and then continued to add pops of fun and details inspired by our sails, the sea, the cities we visit, and our guests.”
