MS Expedition is an expedition cruise ship in the G Adventures fleet, a company with its headquarters in Canada. It was built as a car and passengers ferry in 1972. Later it sailed for Viking Line before being converted into a cruise ship in 2008. The ship can accommodate a maximum of 134 passengers and travels in the Polar Regions with guides and expert scientists on board. Numerous day trips are organized to go on land to see the landscape, geology, and flora and fauna using 12 passenger Zodiac boats. In the Arctic, the guides are armed and trained to in the use of flare launchers and rifles, given the high possibility of encounters with the polar bear, and are in constant radio contact with the ship and each other.
The ship has a heated space where boots and clothes can be stored after excursions. On board, there are panoramic lounges, a bar and restaurant, five different cabin types (all with private bathrooms) and a room large enough to accommodate all passengers in which lectures and presentations can be held. In the evenings, live entertainment is provided in the Polar Bear Bar. There is also a gym, sauna, library, computer room and gift shop.
