Noorderlicht, a small ship sailing today for Oceanwide Expeditions, has a long and fascinating history. It was built in 1910 in Flensburg, Germany, as a three-mast schooner. For most of its existence it served as a light ship on the Baltic Sea. In 1991, the current owners bought the hull and refurbished it.
The Noorderlicht is now able to sail anywhere and is particularly suitable for expedition cruises among small island chains or unexplored coastlines. It offers accommodation for 20 travelers in small double cabins with shared bathrooms, which is an acceptable compromise because of the unique experience aboard an over one hundred years old sailing ship to some of the most unique places in the world.
