Shieldhall is a ship of particular interest as it is built on the classic lines of a 1920s steamer with a traditional wheelhouse; the hull is of riveted and welded construction and this unusual feature is representative of the transition phase in British shipbuilding when welding took the place of riveting. The hull has a slightly sloping bow and a cruiser stern. The ship can accommodate up to 80 passengers who have the opportunity to take short cruises aboard this vintage ship.
Today it’s believed to be the largest functioning steamship in Northern Europe and is owned and operated entirely through the effort of volunteers.
